Exciting News for 2018!

Dear All,

I want to share some exciting new!  At least it’s exciting for me.  For those of you who don’t know, Home Adviser acquired Angie’s list on October 1st.  Since October 1, I have been participating in the transition working with Angie’s list Product group.  My last day at ANGI Homeservices Inc. (fka Angie’s list) was on 12/29/2017.

To some that doesn’t sound too exciting.  To me, it is a blessing.  I have decided to follow my heart. Today (January 2, 2018) and going forward, I  am going to devote all my efforts to furthering beLithe LLC as the premier Agile and Software Development company in Indiana.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with beLithe LLC, I’d like to tell you more.  Over the last few years, Tana Linback and I have been teaching and evangelizing Culture, Scrum and Agile in our full time jobs to anybody who would listen.  We created beLithe  LLC as a vehicle to teach, and have trained over 300 students including TechPoint xTerns, TechPoint Bootcampers, Eleven Fifty students, college students at IU, IUPUI, and Purdue.  I believe the time has come for me to take a swing and see if I can actually take this side gig and turn it into a startup company.

Being an Agile company, beLithe  LLC offerings will initially be the following services:

I am anticipating that some of our offering will change over time as we iterate as a company.

Thank you for playing a part in my journey so far. I want to share the experiences I have gained along the way to benefit those who want to grow in their professional development in the business and delivering software.

I’ll admit it, I am excited and scared, but that is part of what makes this fun.   I hope you will continue to participate in my journey.

Improve Your Knowledge and Get Your Scrum Certification

Over the last few years, Tana and I have been offering our Scrum training to students at ElevenFifty, CEWIT @ IU, and Purdue.  Last year, we also conducted a training session with TechPoint Bootcampers and Xterns and Tech Fellowes.  We constantly get asked about how one gets certified.  To help reinforce what we share in training and help folks get their certification, we have developed Pocket Prof for the iPhone and Android smart phones.  Designed as a quiz app, Pocket Prof provides a series of questions and answers to test your knowledge of Scrum.  The app compliments our training, and can be used to increase your knowledge of Scrum, enabling you to get your Scrum certification.  As with our course content, Scrum.org’s Scrum Guide was a key reference for Pocket Prof.

As our interactive aid to our training, we hope to add other quizzes as well in the near future.  The app is free in both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.  Check it out and let us know what you think.

Blue Pillar: Scrum Training at the Speakeasy

Last week, I got the opportunity to spend two days in Scrum training with the development team of a great Indy company, Blue Pillar.   For those of you haven’t heard of Blue Pillar yet, you’re not alone.  I only learned of them through my partner in crime, Tana Linback.  Blue Pillar is one of those companies that tech folks dream about:  Company is started by a tech founder who starts out coding in his basement, growing into an award winning business.

The story wasn’t what got me stoked about the scrum training though. BP has adopted Scrum and Agile through a grass roots effort, and had wanted to get their team on the same page by attending scrum training.  Because most of the attendees had been practicing for a while, the framework portions went fairly quickly.  As a team, they were less interested in the activities geared toward reinforcing the concepts, and were more interested in the practical applications.  As you can imagine, I enjoyed the back and forth of the discussion interacting with the BP team.IMG_2619[1]

What got me stoked were the attendees.  The attendees included the  BP scrum team, plus their product strategy/management folks (Kyle Zeronik, Eric Reichel, David Schwarz).  In fact, the leadership of BP felt so strongly, that Brad Witter, the President of BP, was an active participant for both days.  For a small company, titles don’t mean much, but BP‘s staff is comprised of about 50 people.  If a company’s success is measured by the commitment of their leadership, BP will go a long way.  The commitment of the leadership certainly resonated with the other attendees.

As always, I enjoyed the opportunity that the Blue Pillar Scrum team was kind enough to provide.  I hope the Blue Pillar Scrum team found the Scrum training helpful as they continue on their Agile journey.
