What is Management 3.0?

Transform a group of employees into the ultimate dream team. Discover the ins and outs of management 3.0, and why you should consider it.

There are numerous leadership styles you can use as a manager in the business world today. Unfortunately, just knowing what you can or should be doing may not be enough to get the job done.

That’s where Management 3.0 comes in. It’s designed to take you beyond theories and styles and help you take action to lead your team.

Keep reading to learn more about management principles and practices that you can start using to motivate your team to make them more productive and happier.

Management Progression

To help you understand what Management 3.0 is, let’s take a closer look at the other two management principles and why those don’t work.

Management 1.0

This type of management style was created by engineers who treated businesses like machines. They believed that to keep it running, individual parts needed to be repaired or replaced.

While this “monitor and control” style may have worked in the 20th century, it simply doesn’t work today with a new generation of workers that think differently than the previous one.

Management 2.0

This style gets the concepts right, but it’s executed poorly. Management 2.0 focuses on people and expects managers to be “servant leaders.” However, many people in management positions abuse their power and don’t give as much responsibility to their team as they should.

Management 3.0

When we get to Management 3.0, we stay far away from organizations being machines and take the focus off of managers leading to giving responsibility to all of the team members.

Essentially, it’s thinking about the company as a community where each member is equally important and needs to pull their own weight. Managers are put in place to create an environment in which that can happen naturally.

Management 3.0 Principles

Although we already touched on a couple of these, let’s dig deeper into some of the main principles of Management 3.0 so you can understand how and why it works so well.

Everybody is a Leader

When everybody is considered a leader, this puts the responsibility for the success of the company on each individual rather than only those in management. This drives team members to work hard to build the company rather than looking out for only themselves.

Improve the Environment

As a manager in a company that uses the Management 3.0 system, your goal should be to manage and improve the environment rather than the people. It’s about creating an environment in which people naturally take more responsibility.

This often means putting systems in place that encourage the development of soft skills and other abilities needed by every employee.

Making Everybody Happy

Employees are not the only people that this system should focus on. Instead, it needs to include other business partners and your customers. Everybody that is involved with your company in some way should be considered part of the community.

The end goal of Management 3.0 is to make everybody happy. Happy employees work harder and are more productive. Happy customers buy more, engage more, and share your company more with others.

Co-working and Engagement

To avoid the pitfall of managers having power trips, Management 3.0 puts everybody on the same level as co-workers that are all working towards a common goal. As such, there are ample opportunities for everyone to provide feedback and co-create company behavior that drives success.

Benefits of Management 3.0 System

Now let’s glance through some of the biggest benefits of using the Management 3.0 system. These will vary depending on the current system and you may gain other benefits compared to the current management system that’s in place.

Works in Any Industry

It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in. This management principle will still work to bring people together in a community where everybody benefits. The exact system you put in place will likely vary but the main principles are the same.

Works with Any Team

You may think the people on your team won’t respond to these principles. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s designed to work with all types of people to encourage them to become leaders for all of their co-workers.

Boosts Productivity

When each person is pulling their own weight and taking responsibility for fulfilling their role at the company, there will naturally be a boost in productivity. This is also true because they’ll be happier and happier employees work harder.

Encourages Innovation

If you want your business to be at the forefront of your industry, you need to have a team full of innovators. You simply never know who will have the next great idea which is why it’s so important to have a company culture that encourages creativity and the sharing of new ideas.

Changes Company Culture

When you think about your current company culture, how does it make you feel? Are you proud or disappointed in how your company is operating? With Management 3.0, you can change your company culture into something you can be proud of.

Increases Flexibility

Something businesses need to be today is flexible. As many people found out recently, your whole company may suddenly need to start working from home. With Management 3.0 principles, it makes it easier for any business to make that adjustment without losing any momentum.

Happier Employees

As we’ve mentioned, happy employees are more productive which can help increase your bottom line. They’re also more likely to come into work and less likely to leave your company, helping you keep your turnover rates down.

Happier Customers

Happy customers want to engage more with your company which means they keep coming back to make more purchases. They also spread positive news about your company, giving you invaluable word-of-mouth advertising.
